Plus Size Models
Those who have been keeping themselves up to date with changes in the modeling arena may be aware that the modeling profession has become more accepting of plus-sized as well as short-height models.
New Delhi : Recently, Zane Dipika Garret, a plus-size contestant from Nepal for the Miss Universe pageant 2023, dispelled the stereotype that such contests are exclusive for slender females.
Her participation in Miss Universe has created awareness of plus size modeling which has now become an important aspect of the glamorous modeling industry.
In order to attract those customers who can specifically relate to them, advertisers search for such attractive plus-size models who can market those items that fit their size.
These plus size models not only endorse large-sized clothing items but also many fashion accessories including watches, sandals, eyewear, lipsticks, face creams, and home and medical products.
Modeling has been the subject of controversy despite its increasing popularity as a career due to its promotion of slender body types. Models are missing out on meals and nutrients necessary to maintain a healthy body as a result of the demanding nature of staying in shape for their job.
A few models also passed away as a result of eating disorders, in addition to causing medical issues. Shortly after making her runway debut at a fashion show in 2006, Uruguayan model Eliana Ramos breathed her last. A few months later, her sister Luisel, a model died from heart-related issues arising due to skipping the food.
Models' deteriorating health raised alam bell and leading fashion brand Vogue banned the usage of those models who were suffering from eating disorders. In Madrid, Spain it was made mandatory for models to undergo medical inspection before the catwalk.
Challenging the stereotypes in the modeling profession, few successful plus size models winning hearts are Ashley Graham, Tabria Mazors and of course Jane Dipika Garret. Inclusivity is a new and surprising element added to the salient features of the modeling profession.
